Strength, force, vigour

I have provided a new piece of music titled "The Hawk-Headed Lord" to the online literary journal Colony, for their current issue based around the theme of magic. You can hear it at their website here.

PK Live

A real pleasure to join Patrick Kelleher onstage at Vicar Street last night for a few songs, including the debut of a collaboration we've been working on together. I'll be joining him there again tonight, although the event has - as with last night - been sold out for some time now. For those unable to attend the Vicar Street concerts (or for those who want to hear his new songs live again!), you can catch Patrick (his set again featuring an appearance from myself) this Thursday at the Grand Social, for which tickets at a discounted price are still available (see the event page by New Natives on Facebook for further information).

The fifteen minute edit of Michael Higgins' amazing, intense and hallucinogenic film The Poorhouse Revisited is available to view for the first time online here at Vimeo. I provided the soundtrack for this, which features vocals from Suzanne Walsh along with my reworkings of material created with many talented friends of mine. The magnificent feature length version of this film has to be seen to be believed, but this is a good taster of that.

BC / SW / DMD Live Samhain 2014

This Halloween, the trio of Suzanne Walsh, Diamuid MacDiarmada, and myself play live for the first time in over two years (during this period of silence to the outer world we have managed to record a lot of new material, to be released when the time and place are right). Giving the event - which is in our favourite venue in Dublin (and sadly due to close its doors for good at the end of the year) - even more of a reunion feel, we'll be sharing the stage (and Diarmuid) with the sensational Tarracóir, who feature dear old friends and collaborators Gavin Prior and Bryan O'Connell.

SAW 2014

I (alongside Ed Devane, Andy Mooney amongst others) have contributed music to the sound installation at the Sonic Arts Waterford festival in collaboration with W.I.T. Vertical Studio and Waterford Festival of Architecture.

Jah Sev

I have a track on this compilation release, which is dedicated to John Everall who is dying of stomach cancer. The money raised from this is going towards his funeral costs.
John Everall is responsible for records of intense electronic music released as Tactile, and also known for his label Sentrax, which was among the first to put out experimental work by the likes of Mick Harris of Scorn + Napalm Death, Justin Broadrick of Godflesh, James Plotkin and more.
John was one of the first people to encourage and recommend my own work online upon hearing some of my earliest recordings. I recall he compared what I was doing with Eno's On Land and Lull's Cold Summer, truly a great compliment. His enthusiasm was definitely a factor in my dedicating of myself to musical work.
My piece on this release is one of those earliest tracks of mine that he would have heard back then, with the bulk of the track (created from voice and piano and later reworked in the soundtrack to Michael Higgins' film The Poorhouse Revisited) being originally recorded in September 2006 and with additional material recorded and overdubbed last month, and was wonderfully mastered by Gregg Janman of Hermitech Mastering. Also on the compilation appear many luminaries of experimental and electronic music, including principal collaborators with Coil such as Stephen Thrower, Drew McDowall, and Danny Hyde, Nurse With Wound members such as irr. app. (ext.), Andrew Liles, and Christoph Heemann, Anthony Child (Surgeon), and many, many more.

Bornless EP

Here's the first online EP of my solo work, collecting examples of my more ambient material.
I have enough material for at least three solo albums complete, and I don't particularly want to put all of them online yet, but I have decided to do a series of EP length digital releases on Bandcamp as "tasters" of the future complete albums.

The LP I did with Suzanne Walsh and Diarmuid MacDiarmada is on sale at the bargain price of £8 from Fourth Dimension Records + Lumberton Trading Company, alongside many other releases at reduced prices by the likes of Thighpaulsandra, Human Greed, JFK / Anthony Di Franco, Merzbow and more, until the end of this month. Contact for more information.
There's probably never been a more difficult time for labels and artists releasing uncompromising and original music. Fourth Dimension Records + Lumberton Trading Company - active since 1983 and responsible for putting out releases by Sleaford Mods, Richard Youngs, Circle, Faust, Michael Gira, yours truly, amongst many others - have a crowdfunding scheme active at

Catch / Star

Here at Soundcloud is the first piece from the second collection of my recordings with guitarist Jamie Grimes (titles and format of release yet to be decided). Recorded at the Siteation venue / gallery in Dublin last September. This is the first performance of this piece, entirely improvised with no rehearsals beforehand and no overdubs or remixing / significant editing afterward.

Longer Days

Here is a short excerpt from the JG / BC performance with Jamie Grimes at Sonic Arts Waterford last year. This is a solo piece by Jamie, with the corresponding projection visuals from myself. This is part of an album's worth of material recorded over the last year which is complete now, I might put other bits from it online on soundcloud in the near future. Thanks to all the Sonic Arts Festival for inviting us to play and running such a great event. Also thanks to Moose's custom electronics for the custom made effects pedals which both Jamie and I used, and which made all the difference.

Next live performance is Catscars at The Workman's Club, Wellington Quay, Dublin, Friday 21 March, doors 8 pm.

To celebrate the first snow fall this year here in Dublin, I'm sharing this track - via Soundcloud - from my vinyl with Suzanne Walsh and Diarmuid MacDiarmada, the working title of which was "Snow Song". Copies of the record (which includes both familiar - to some - pieces like "Landslide" and also material which is not available to be heard online) are available from Lumberton Trading Company / Fourth Dimension Records (

New solo ambient piece online at soundcloud.
This contains material recorded for the Smolt soundtrack, combined with outdoor recordings made during summer last year.
Thanks to Michael Higgins.
